
St Mary’s Parish Church: – Tower Open Morning. There will be a tower open morning from 11 am to 1 pm to give the people of Saffron Walden and visitors to the town an opportunity to climb the tower, see bell ringing in action and ‘have a go’.
The Jubilee Beacon day will take the following format:

TOWN CRIER – THE ‘PROCLAMATION’ – Market Square, Saffron Walden
The Town Crier will undertake the ‘Proclamation’ from The Market Place, Saffron Walden.
From 3.30pm – The Common, Saffron Walden
- Local Food stalls and bars by Ginporium and Market House
- ‘Warm up’ Music and dance entertainment

Dance on The Common with The Miss Jones Jazz Band – sounds of jazz and swing will get you to your feet. Young and old are all welcome.
Saffron Walden Town Council would like to invite all residents to the Platinum Jubilee Costume Competition! Come dressed as your favourite Royal or 1950’s or Jubilee themed – the choice is yours! The competition winners will be chosen and announced during the evening with prizes to be won in adult and children’s categories.
Funded by SWTC, an additional Jubilee event will include the Audacious Mr Astley, Circus ringmaster who will be running a free performance on the Common, on Thursday 2nd June at 8pm. Tickets are free of charge from the Tourist Information Centre or on the door on the night.

Traditional Piper will undertake ‘Diu Regnare’ from the Beacon Site, at The Common (near to Turf Maze), Saffron.
21.40 BUGLE CALL – ‘MAJESTY’
Local Saffron Walden County High student will undertake this Bugle Call at the Beacon site.
21.45 Announcing the Lighting of the Beacon
21.45 LIGHTING OF THE BEACON & SONG FOR THE COMMONWEALTH
As Beacons are lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and within each of the Commonwealth Countries, Military Wives Choir Wimbish will sing ‘A Life Lived with Grace’ at the Beacon site as a ‘unique’ musical tribute to Her Majesty The Queen.
Dignitaries have been invited to the Lighting of the Beacon.
Running alongside and throughout the weekend are;
- A manmade beach with deck chairs on The Common
- Circus performances from Santos Circus; two performances each day – 2pm and 5pm. Tickets are to be purchased directly from Santos Circus.
- Jubilee Arts & Crafts drop-in workshop on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd
- Photographic and archive display on Thurs 2nd and Friday 3rd – images and memorabilia from the Queen’s Coronation and through each of the Jubilee celebrations.
