The four large bollards in Saffron Walden Market Square have been transformed from rather dull black affairs into vibrant pieces of art.
Three local artists, Sonia Villiers, Charlotte Pratt and Helen Wiseman, have kindly given their time and skills free of charge to paint individual artworks on each bollard, as follows:
- Museum Street in March by Sonia Villiers
- Saffron Walden Museum theme by Charlotte Pratt
- Henry Winstanley theme by Charlotte Pratt
- Bridge End Garden theme by Helen Wiseman
This project was inspired by a visit to Winchester by a member of the Tourist Information Centre team. They were inspired by the wonderful bollards that had been painted in the centre of the city. More details on the Winchester bollards can be seen here.
It is hoped that this project can be extended over the next few years, so watch this space, or, more specifically, bollard!
