Puddingstone Walks in Essex

£16.95

For thousands of years, puddingstones have been hidden across the county, little-known relics of how the land was formed millions of years ago.

So-named because of their distinctive composition of colourful pebbles resembling the cherries and currants in an old fashioned plum pudding, puddingstones are normally associated with Hertfordshire, but they have their place in Essex too.

Description

This book of 22 circular walks, covering over 100 miles of Essex footpaths and taking in over 50 puddingstones, gives you the opportunity to discover these marvellous prehistoric boulders for yourself.

The walks vary in length from 3.5 to 7 miles and all are dog-friendly. They take in all the traditional sights of the rural parts of the county, including pretty villages with thatched cottages and cosy pubs, as well as riverbanks and hedgerows teeming with wildlife. The terrain is diverse, passing through ancient woodland, peaceful country lanes and open fields with panoramic views. There are also areas of national importance, including nature reserves, ancient ruins and disused railway lines, as well as sections of prominent paths such as The Essex Way and Saffron Trail
