Saffron Walden Christmas 2024!

Saffron Walden Town Council (SWTC) has that festive feeling; its plans are well underway in readiness for Christmas celebrations to commence!

The annual ‘Light Switch On’ and lantern parade takes place on Friday 22 November – but the fun starts sooner that that with two FREE lantern making workshops.

Families are welcome to join SWTC at the workshops taking place on Saturday 09 and 16 November, 10am – 2pm in The Jubilee Hub, CB10 1EH – No booking required, just drop in.

Lanterns will then be collected at St Mary’s Church on Friday 22 November at 5.30pm, parading at 5.45pm to meet in the Market Square for the Light Switch On at 6pm.  Food and entertainment will be taking place in the Market Square from 4pm and into the evening until 8pm.

On Sunday 24 November the Christmas Fayre in the Square will take place, 10am – 3pm with a range of market stalls, a perfect chance to start your Christmas Shopping!  Town Mayor, Cllr Deryk Eke will also be hosting his Christmas Charity Tombola; his chosen charities being Citizens Advice Uttlesford and Mind in West Essex.

SWTC is again hosting its Grotto for families to enjoy, just £2.00 per child – no booking required, just turn up! – on Saturday 07 and Sunday 08 December, 11am – 3pm in the Town Hall, via the back door.

If your retail business would like to donate a gift, please contact Colette at events@saffronwalden.gov.uk – and if you are a non-retail business, cash donations to enable SWTC to locally purchase items such as food hampers, crafting gifts, beer / wine, gift vouchers for hair / beauty and take-away food, for example, are also welcome.
