Foyer Jazz

September 13

- £18

This year marks the centennial of the birth of Blossom Dearie, a legend in both the New York and London club scenes. Renowned for her delicate, kitten-like voice and playful, tongue-in-cheek vocals, Dearie masterfully navigated the realms of jazz and cabaret. With hits like ‘I’m Hip’ and ‘Peel Me a Grape’, she humorously critiqued the very culture she was part of.

An evening dedicated to Blossom Dearie, on Friday 13 September at 8pm, promises laughter, sophistication, and, most importantly, exceptional music. Celebrated as a ‘musician’s musician’, Dearie collaborated with some of the finest musicians and songwriters of her time, including Johnny Mercer, Miles Davis, and Duncan Lamont. Her music, familiar to many from film and television – most notably in the acclaimed Amazon series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel – continues to enchant new audiences. Her French songs, evocative of 1950s Paris, add a touch of nostalgia.

They Say It’s Spring – A Century of Blossom aims to recreate the intimate club atmosphere that Dearie was known for, showcasing her most beloved songs and arrangements. Isobel Gathercole and her band will transport you to 1966 Ronnie Scott’s, echoing the vibe of Dearie’s live album Blossom Time at Ronnie Scott’s and capturing the essence of the swinging 60s in Soho. Whether you are new to Blossom Dearie or a long-time fan, this event promises an engaging journey through her most memorable hits and her uniquely joyful, carefree style.
