Prokofiev’s expansive sonata contains music of brittle, sometimes savage energy framed by music of restless beauty, whilst Debussy acts as a counterweight – a refined, concise wartime masterpiece of elegance and exuberance. Takemitsu links the two with music of cloudy, shimmering textures and a haunting introspection.
