DR MARIE-ANNE MANCIO
ARTISTS AND THEIR MUSES – THE ROLE OF THE MUSES; WHEN THE MUSES WERE MEN
Dr Marie-Anne Mancio will give two lectures on Artists and their Muses. In the first, she will look at the role of the female Muse from Botticelli’s and Leonardo’s enigmas through to legendary women like Whistler’s mother and will highlight the very different approaches of artists such as Matisse and Picasso to their muses. The second lecture will, in contrast, examine the differences when the muses were men, from Caravaggio’s beautiful youths to Sam Taylor-Wood’s David Beckham.
