The Railway Arms was saved by local residents from the developers in 2020 and is now Saffron Walden’s first community owned pub. Situated in the shadow of the old Saffron Walden railway branch line, this old hidden gem has been serving the local area since 1865. A pub with great character and a warm friendly atmosphere and a fine selection of locally produced beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks and some national brands too. Open from midday every day, the pub was named as CAMRA’s Essex Pub of the Year in 2022 and regularly features in their Good Beer Guide. The pub also has a large beer garden to the rear and an outside courtyard to the side. Dogs are most welcome.

Sunday Roasts are served from midday to 3.30pm and on Thursday evenings food trucks from ‘Off The Beaten Truck’ serve their delicious gourmet food from 5.00pm to 8.00pm

There is also a regular Quiz Night every Sunday from 7.30pm
